Meet Our Current Rats
Gambian Pouched Rats
Gambian Pouched Rats General Care We own 4 pouched rats, two males and two females. The two females live together when Sifera isn't breeding, and the boys live seperately from each other as they don't get along. The one male Abu lives in an abode cage, and the others live in two arena playstation 80 cages They are bedded on Ecopetbed as a base litter, with shredded newspaper, kitchen roll and safebed paper as their nesting material. Their toys and lounging items include hammocks, tubes, wheels, balls, igloos, wood chews and ropes. They are fed based on the Shunamite diet, which uses a base food, dog kibble, dried pasta and breakfast cereals along with extra seeds and nuts to make up the higher protein intake they need and extra fruit and vegetables to make a well balanced diet. Every pouched rat is taken out daily.
Sifera - Female Sifera is our current pouched rat breeding female, and is deeply in pouchie love with Abu. We are currently clicker training her so she becomes tamer and easier to handle, as when we got her she didn't like being around us. She has progressed to the point now where she will put our fingers in her mouth without hurting us. She holds the record among our pouched rats for the most peanuts stuffed in her mouth at once (14, shelled).
Abu - Male Abu is Siferas breeding partner, and a big softy. He makes an excellent dad to the babies and is constantly cleaning both them and Sifera whenever he gets a chance. However, he tends to forget that the babies can't just wander back into the nest when they are younger, and we have to tirelessly put them back in after his cleaning activities, whatever the time of night!
Dobby - Male, non breeding Dobby is our newest male pouched rat and has a very shy and timid nature. He is a pet only, as we feel that he is too tempermental to be bred from. However at the moment he is being clicker trained and is progressing well, although he would rather grab the food with his hands than take it nicely.
Sahara - Female, non breeding Sahara is our newest female pouchie. She is absolutely fantastic and a perfect example of how tame a pouched rat can really be. She gives lots of licky kisses, and always wants to be out of her cage (and usually gets her way).
Dumbo Rats
Dumbo Rats General Care We own 6 dumbo rats which are kept in two seperate groups of three - one male group, and one female group. They live in a Savic Royal Suite cage divided into two, and are bedded on Ecopetbed as a base litter, with shredded newspaper, kitchen roll and safebed paper as their nesting material. Their toys and lounging items include hammocks, tubes, wheels, balls, igloos, wood chews and ropes. They are fed based on the Shunamite diet, which uses a base food, dog kibble, dried pasta and breakfast cereals along with extra fruit and vegetables to make a well balanced diet. When breeding we use the Savic Freddy 2 cages. Every rat is taken out daily.
Mischief - Female, non breeding Mischief has the best personality of all our ratties. She plays with and chases objects just like a cat would do, and always holds her tail high above her head looking very proud. She was bred by us, and is a great example as to how tame our rats are when they grow up.
Summer - Female Summer is Patches sister and is a very lovely rattie. She is interested in everything, and is best buddies with Willow.
Willow - Female Willow used to be brown and white until she went through a beautiful colour change and is now husky coloured. She is a fantastic little girl and always wants to come out.
Patches - Male Patches is an absolutely stunning rex boy. He has a brilliant personality, and spends his time wrestling with his fellow cage mates.
Marshmellow - Male Marshmellow is the softest of the 3 male dumbo rats we have. He loves his cuddles, and will always be the first to dive for the cage door as soon as it is opened for playtime.
